This news item deserves its own topic, periodically. It usually takes a few read-throughs, and I've posted it a few times to revive it. The discussion afterwards does include a lot of quoting from Rebello's work, by members seeking clarity.

Interesting reading about Commonwealth laws of inheritance, published around a week after the murders as there seems there was a lot of public interest in a "Will" at that time:

That did take a couple readings. The point/counter point about the Fishes might still require a few more readings! :)

Unless there is a conflicting legal interpretation, this seems to make it clear that the sequence of deaths was irrelevant. It was hard to imagine that Lizzie new the legal nuances and this interpretation makes it unimportant to know them.

Even as late as 1969, a surviving relative of Abbie Borden, Abby Potter, still held strong views on the culprit, the crime, and inheritance issues.
