Dr. Jordan Fiore on Lizzie Borden

Post by Stefani »

A rare interview with Dr. Jordan Fiore on Lizzie Borden.
Interviewed by Jean Bancroft and Don Mclean.
WALE radio, circa 1973.
Jordan Fiore had a life-long interest in the Lizzie Borden case. "I saw Lizzie once in Fall River. I was a very young boy, and someone pointed her out to me. I've never forgotten her."
Dr. Fiore lectured frequently on the case and was planning on writing a book, but it was not to be.
Thanks to Ray McNally for keeping this reel-to-reel tape all these years and commissioning its digitization.

Thanks for sharing the link. Amazing how much more information on the case is available now vs. 1973.

Dr. Fiore mentioned that he had written a draft of his Lizzie book. I wonder if his family hung onto those papers? Did his children remain in the Fall River area?

Unfortunately, his family never found a manuscript.

I attended a talk by Dr. Fiore at the Bridgewater Public Library back in the day. He spoke well and answered many questions about Lizzie's case and his research. While employed at Bridgewater State College, I was fortunate to have access to the Special Collections Library and I read some of Dr. Fiore's materials.

Hi Tracie!

Did you learn any insights into the case reading some of the Fiore's research that isn't in the standard primary sources? Did he have any particular theories that you are aware of?

It's been close to 30 years since I read his material. My memory of finding his work was exciting because I had a great interest in his subject. The talk at the library he seemed to lean toward Lizzie as the killer, but again that was over 30 years ago. Wish a found a manuscript that I would remember word for word!

Those of us who had adopted this case in the past 10-20 years have a massive advantage over the folks like Dr. Fiore. The internet, digital records and the release of case related info by the Historical Society have changed everything for us 'wannabe' sleuths of this case.
