Below is the Jefferson Borden House, which once stood on on the corner of Anawan and Canal Street close to the Taunton River and near the shore of Crab Pond. It was moved nearly a mile away, up hill, to the corner of High and Walnut Streets by William Jennings.

As for the map which shows Highland Place, if you remember I had mentioned that Highland Place was shaped like an "L". Well, as I see, and as I had forgotten, the little L shaped street was a combination of two very short streets. Highland PL. and Prospect PL. These two small lanes no longer exist and all the homes upon it were moved to other lots sprinkled along the Highland area.

About the homes that were moved from Highland Place and Prospect Place, only four of them come to mind at the moment. I was part of the crew which helped move some of them. But it was so long ago I forget at the moment where they all are.

But here are a couple of them. Moved to High Street, French Street, and Cherry Streets.

They were easy houses to moves for the Company I was working for. Our job was to take down telephone wires. But in that neighborhood, where the houses stood and were moved, most of the wires were run in backyards and behind houses along with the telephone poles and electric and not along the street. (if you travel down French Street and Rock Street, etc. you don't see telephone poles along the street.)

I remember some house moves in other places in the city where we had to take down hundreds of wires so the house could pass down the road. In some cases the poles were removed and placed back. After the house went by we had to place all the wires back up while customers complained about how long they would be out of service. The day after that, we were back since some customers had each other's phone numbers due to wires being mis-connected.

Today, no one moves a house. Most are just demolished.
