Well, yes that's true Auds, but...I would think there be a better market for beans (or the stalks thereof) than brick dust

I guess you could say one person's brick dust is another person's beanstalk...the value is in the eye of the beholder.

There was a man selling Hurricane wind from the Panhandle of Florida on E-bay. He included a photo with himself outside holding an open bottle toward the wind and rain while the palm trees were bent over. I think it sold for about $18. He probably had several.

Maybe I should try to be at 92 second street the next time they cut grass or trim weeds. I could sell the clippings .

Well... Thayne's retirement fund is safe. I was outbid and did make another bid--but only to $2 which was the highest I would go!

I did see that the seller at one time sold a Lizzie "Hatchet" keychain to the same person who outbid me!

I wouldn't mind having that keychain!

The Seller, I believe, is Lisa Hoffman, who does the LB B&B website. Maybe she is test marketing items they might sell in the gift shop. :)

Wow.. Now I am tempted to get it. I did enter some more bids but they were always outbid immediately by the other bidder.

If it is the same Lis Hoffman -- surely it is legit?

I have a hatchet keychain from one of my trips to the house. They have them for sale at the B&B website for $10. Click on gift shop...then novelties.

Yes I hear the person selling the brick dust is legit.
I think they should advertise that it is the B&B and they would get a better response.

Yes, the brick dust is ours. We thought we'd put it up on ebay to see how it would do before I started selling it in the giftshop....we've got to pay for that new barn somehow.

Good idea, Lee-ann. Exactly what I figured when I saw it and recognized the seller. A picture portfolio of the Leary Press demolition would be a good collector item too! (I'm an architect).

Wouldnt mind a vial myself although I imagine shipping across the globe may be a problem... guess I'll have to wait til I can afford a holiday over to collect it myself

Random factoid:
Brick dust is used in Voodoo to ward off evil spells. Scrubbing or sprinkling your front and back porch wih brick dust protects the house and its inhabitants.

God only knows what Lizzie's brick dust would do.

I have done some research on the color drab, and it's historical use. I have found out that the color drab usually refered to a dull brown. Much as the B&B is painted now. I even found some instructions for how to mix drab paint, and a picture of a room in which "the decorative scheme features the “delicate neutral tints” — fawn, drab, stone, and gray "


The following hints for mixing shades for outside painting, may be of

Chocolate. Spanish brown and black - or, for a lighter shade, Venetian red and black.

Hmm maybe the "paint" in the dress could've been the same color as dried blood after all?

I have now sold 24 bottles of dust at $5 each....only 99,976 more bottles and the renovations are paid for!

Are there any other items such as the brick dust which might be purchased? Now that I know the source, and I know it's really from the chimney, I'm thinking twice about wanting to buy some myself. I'm thinking I might like to own a piece of Lizzie Borden's house, even if it comes in powder form .

It's not that I'd like brick dust personally, I just figured if they are trying to sell it it's not very visible. I might email the B&B if Lee-Ann doesn't see this here first. I'd like to see them raise the money for renovations ASAP

This morning (April 9) in the mail at the Fairhaven Visitors Center, I got the latest issue of "The Compass," which is the quarterly newsletter of the Bristol County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

On page two there's a short article about Lee-Ann selling "ghost dust" from the B&B. It seems to be a condensed version of the Fall River Herald News story. It's a shorter story but most of it is word-for-word the same.
