Slippery Slippers Theory

Post by Inspector »

Did Lizzie commit a Freudian slip?

Lizzie had been characterized as mannish, and wore mens hats, and shoes.

Lizzie would have been familiar with putting on mens hats, shoes, and taking them off from time to time.
At the inquest Lizzie said that she put Andrew’s slippers on him after he lied down, but they are nowhere to be found, and Andrew was wearing his boots when he was killed —or was he?

Theory :
Did Andrew come home, take off his boots, and set them close by?
Lizzie may have picked them up, and said I’ll get your slippers for you, then walked out of sight, slipped on his boots to shield her ankles , and feet.
Knowing the evidence would be mostly on her lower body from earlier experience, this would be one less thing to dispose of, or try to clean .

Now the action that causes the Freudian slip at her inquest —-she slips his boots back on him, before she leaves the sitting room couch.
Then walks away, leaving no footprints.

I’m in NO WAY accusing Lizzie of this,.
Just a theory I came up with.
If it’s been stated before, I hope the admin will delete it.

"Lizzie had been characterized as mannish, and wore mens hats, and shoes."

I had not heard this before. Where did you read that insight?

Not intending to be nitpicky, but I think Hiram Harrington said she put on the slippers. Her testimony is that Andrew put on his slippers.

Lizzie inquest testimony
Q. When you went out to the barn, where did you leave your father?
A. He had laid down on the sitting room lounge, taken off his shoes, and put on his slippers, and taken off his coat and put on the reefer. I asked him if he wanted the window left that way.

Pretty sure your theory has not been posted before.

I don’t consider you knit picking, I appreciate the correction.
I’ve got to go back and see where I got the personality descriptions.
I’ll post back with it.

I got the info from Kat’s amazing thread .
Miscellaneous Goodies from my Everything b Disc
The woman was 100 yrs old , and there’s a picture of her.
Alice Dean. NB Times from 1975 I believe.
It’s on page 4 towards the bottom

I slightly misquoted Alice, I believe she said that Lizzie appeared mannish. The rest about hats , and shoes is accurate .

I believe you replied to the article about Alice.
