Working on new book--Lotta Morgan axed

Post by joe »

April, 1890, Hurley, WI. Lotta Morgan, "actress" (actually a local well thought of hooker) was killed with a hatchet between 2 am and 6 am in an alley. She may have witnessed the largest bank robbery ($40,000) in history of Wisconsin. Or she may have been a Pinkereton spy. Whichever, she was not robbed. Just murdered.

So, I've added this to my list of hatchet murders and am gathering facts and speculation.

I think it sounds interesting.
I take it it is unsolved?
It would be cool if you could solve it!

Unsolved and interesting. Unsolving through speculation is the answer. I have some pretty good theories.

Thanks Joe!
I was wondering if you were related to the *actress*, as you were related to the other crime which you wrote about in your other book!

No, not related to her. She was born in Arkansas; her real name was Laura Whitley.

"...a woman of the demi monde" What a great opening line for a book!

How true! She must have been the favorite of politicians and saloon owners. Normal guys couldn't afford her ummmm services. It's said that most of the male population of this area showed up for her funeral.

Joe, thanks for the heads up on your book. I'll definitely get a copy. I am not going north this summer (rats!). Maybe next summer, tho. I'll bet your book will be in a lot of stores up there. We always buy local authors' work up there. Yours, tho, I think I want as soon as available. I think we have every single one of Clarence Monet's.

We actually met him a few years back. We went to the Copper Range Museum in South Range, and it was his day to volunteer. My husband recognized him because he used to be his professor at Michigan Tech.

Congratulations on starting another book! It sounds GOOD!
