Does anyone know if there are any by laws in place to protect these heritage homes and buildings.
I know they wouldn't let Lizzie's carriage house be torn down. They basically said in thier response to the request that, That is (Maplecroft) the second most famous house in town and it attracts tourists. That's the way it was when Lizzie had it and that the way it's going to stay. I don't know if there is anything in place to protect other structures though.

In New Bedford, they have created an Historic Comission in the past year or so. It make recommendations on the historic worth of buildings that are to be renovated or destroyed, but it has not been especially effective so far.
While everything old is not a treasure, there are so many newcomers to the area, they have so sense of history and everyone is focused on me, me, me!
