Dave Quigley, house chef for 11 years, received his "award" from the Second Street gang yesterday as he was unable to be with us last weekend. We figured Dave has flipped over 80,000 jonnycakes during his years at #92 and deserved recognition! Thanks Dave- for all you do for the guests. Dave arrives at 5 a.m. and the first smell of the morning is Dave's coffee brewing- especially if you are sleeping in Abby and Andrew's room. Kfactor Kristin was awarded the Lens of Sherlock (a gold magnifying lens on a chain) for excellence in detecting -being the first to find the school Emma attended, LeeAAnn and Donald, and Len Rebello were awarded the highest honor bestowed by the Irregulars, - The Golden Fleece- from the Mutton Eaters in recognition of their work in restoring the Borden barn and property, and in Len's case, scholarly pursuit and publication of facts in the case and maintaining such a willingness to share his findings with us all. Dee, the cheery face which usually welcomes everyone in the gift shop was given our cordiality award- a very LARGE pear cookie jar filled with cookies.

You want the bottom code from photobucket, hit Ctrl and the letter C, then Ctrl V in your post box. Here is you photo-I just had a look at your photobucket. Some nice pix in there! What is Andrew's door? If you are using 200 dpi, the image size works best here at about 2 x 3 inches or at 650 pixels at 72 dpi.

Andrew's door: We saw it set out, probably for the trash, by the house Andrew married Abbie in II am forgetting the street name). Len was pretty sure the door came from that house, and that our Andrew probably touched the doorknob...

Still not sure I got the right code. So, I copy the code surrounded by the [img] tags in photobucket, and paste right into the reply box - not the attachment box?
FYI - I am using the Firefox browser, but that shouldn't affect anything...

Yes, the post reply box. When you highlight that last bottom photobucket code, it should show up a little yellow and say "copied"- then paste it in.

When you guys toured the Courthouse, did they explain that the jury box and witness stand had switched sides in the room since Lizzie stood trial? The jury box had been on the left as you face the judge and the witness stand was on the right. Also, she started out in that enclosed *pew-like* seat, but pretty soon was allowed to sit in the other level within the lawyers and court officials section of the court in a chair there with her attorneys.
Also, the original bar the witnesses held on to when they stood to give evidence- a piece of that is at the FRHS.

Left to right: Barbara, Nadzieja, (Lorraine), Richard, myself, Michael, and Jeff. Kristin, Joanne, and Ted are missing here. Yes, we were told the original docket was replaced but I did not know a piece of it is in FRHS. We also heard that she had sat in the pewlike structure first, then was able to move down to floor level. I can't recall hearing the sides were switched as to the jury and witness stand.

As I was talking to Harry today I brought up whether the jury box had been on the left or right and he looked at the picture from the Boston Globe, of June 20th, 1893 to show me the jury was on the right after all. I had read differently, somewhere, and am obviously mistaken, and this picture is proof. (He supplies the picture.)
This rendition, tho not as good quality, is also in the Sourcebook, page 306.

The witness stand tho was on the right (as I said) as well for Lizzie's trial, and there are many drawings of Lizzie seated in the lower enclosure with her lawyers. What I now realize is that when she was seated there she was very close to the jury.
PS: Harry says notice the jurymen's hats on the windowsill!

When we were in the courthouse this past summer, the security guard who took us up there mentioned that the jury box had been on the left.
Apparantly, he was wrong. But that's where you got the idea.

I don't wish to confuse the issue, but I finally figured out what happened.
The first time Stef, me and Harry visited the Courtroom, I think in 2004(?), I knew then that where the jury box was had been changed from Lizzie's day in court.
We had no guard or escort- just use of the room.
So Harry and I sat up in the top tier seats looking down and I said to him that where the jury box is now is not where it was when Lizzie was tried. So I was correct in that it wasn't on the left as it is now, but on the right.
I just misspoke here on the Forum, is what I did.

The rail the witness held to stand up in the witness box had been located later in a girl's school (according to the newspapers), and now part of it is in the FRHS. I thought it was weird that of all the witnesses who touched that wood rail, over time- all the cases tried in that court- I *got* Eli Bence when I closed my eyes and put my hand on there.
I think Shelley would understand.

I look as if I were about to burst into tears at Eli's gravesite. Well, I do feel sad for him-losing his little daughter and dying in such a sad way. He was riding home from the Berkshires with his new daughter-in-law and wife and had a stroke. Knowing he was probably dying, he urged his chauffeur to speed as fast as possible towards home in Pittsfield, but was in a coma by the time they pulled up at the house. They carried in his body and he died at 6 p.m. I am picturing that harrowing ride in that car, his head in Annie's lap, and what must have been going through her mind and thinking of raising their young son Max alone.

And of course he had known so much sadness in his life with the loss of siblings. Then coming forth to testify while at home he had a young wife and little boy to support, his first wife Sarah would die in New Bedford bringing another tragic note. What a crushing blow to have his testimony tossed at the Grand Jury level. I admire Eli- he was a good man society could ill afford to lose.

On a lighter note- gee- I look windblown and like 2 miles of bad road !! No photo ops until we all arrange our hair!

Hi K, Will you be coming to Dec. 16? Those houses look just gorgeous. You're right the inside of that library was fantastic. I wouldn't mind having an apartment right next door so I could slip in every day to read & enjoy the quiet. I have to say that I love the picture of Wednesday from the Addams family. My mother couldn't stand the fact that that was just one of my favorite shows ever. That along with Dark Shadows.

It sounds like a wonderful event. I'm intrigued by the thought of 92 second St. decked out for the holidays.

I never realized Fairhaven was so chocked full of history-New Bedford always seems to steal the thunder. I was excited to hear about the Delano house where FDR told his Momma about his engagement to Eleanor. The last photo is a magnificent structure, and I have forgotten the story about it- only that a movie was filmed here?

As for Harry: he and I and Stefani and Richard were in the Library last August. People were pouring sweat and only ceiling fans were there to cool things off. We Floridians were fine- don't know about the Northeners.
Harry and I sat on that blue tufted bench that's been in a few pictures hereabouts.

Kristin your hair looks great in these pics - very pretty and glossy!

Wow, How did you ever do a picture like that? I love the way it came out & makes the gargoyle look ferocious. Shelley, I think the movie was "Down To The Sea In Ships" hopefully that's the correct name, but it did star Clara Bow. I've never seen it, but Ted knew it. I thought that was funny seeing I'm the one whose always watching the black & white movies!!!
