Windmills

Post by Nancie »

I have a fascination with windmills and lighthouses. Audrey what is the
project the Mormons are working on in Iowa? It sounds interesting.
the Mormons came to my town in Vermont for a whole summer and
copied all the town records, they were very nice people to work with. So I
have also been curious about them and their lifestyle.

Nancie...

These windmills are being built on farm land and will supply power for Midwest Power. People who agree to have them on their land receive $4000 per year per windmill. They take about 10 acres of land. We applied and were approved for 4 of them in a field we owned across the gravel road from our house. $16,000 a year will go a long way to sending our kids to college. (I am a a firm believer in having faith and it will happen!)

I will get some photos for you-- They are beautiful to see. Very modern-- almost like a work of art!

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints... aka the Mormons-- have the most complete geneology records anywhere. They believe that once a person is "sealed" into their faith that he or she can "seal" their ancestors ensuring them a place in heaven. This is behind their very dilligent and complete study of geneology. I have heard that they are generous with their records but have never attempted to get any information from them. (My family is traced back to the 1200's and Thayne's Aunt has theirs going back as far as anyone really cares about)

Although their religious beliefs are somewhat outside of the mainstream they are very kind and generous people and do consider themselves to be Christians. They call their church a meeting house and recently built a new one in my community. Some of the women are involved in Meals on Wheels with me and I find them to be very easy to be around and quite lovely women. They drink no caffeine but always join us afterwards while we drink coffee or juice and have cookies. I like them.

I will let you know when I have the photos!
