The item had some newsprint on the case.
I was reading it and realized that "back then" before forensics they used different criteria for a successful prosecution- and the claim was that each of 4 had "almost equal weight:"
"Motive"
"Weapon"
"Exclusive Opportunity"
and the
"Demeanor, conduct, and general character of the accused."
These standards had to be met for a guilty verdict.
The reporter opined that the motive was flimsey and the weapon never proved, etc.
In fact, looking at 14 pages of these old newspapers, I found a lot of interesting things to save- he was generous with his pictures of content!
Thanks for the link, Aaron!

Well, it's too late now- it sold for just over $100.
If anyone is interested in the Civil War, and Lincoln there's a lot of newspaper info reproduced on that guys sales! (Click on all his items- there's 14 pages of 'em).
I found the earliest (I think, so far anyway for our purposes) newspaper with actual photographs in it! It was a 1900 newspaper!

Maybe the geezer that won it can scan it and put it on the site
Of course the rarity of this one is that Lizzie is on the cover (and what a great cover) for such a famous case, the year and it being original, I guess the price was OK, other papers from an earlier time period wouldn't automatically be worth more just because they are older, vintage Ripper, Borden, Titanic, Valentino etc are always gonna get the high $$$ price:twisted:
