Any Twilighters out there?
Okay, I know Stephanie Meyers' books are meant for "Young Adults" but I must confess to having become a "Twilight Mom" after a guest to the Borden house told me about the 4 book series two weeks ago. She had on a black Twilight teeshirt and when I asked what it was all about she said the magic word- "vampires"- and as I am a vampire "enthusiast"for the past 45 years, I was interested. The movie opens November 21st and I have not done too much over the past 2 weeks except read the books- the laundry and ironing finally got done today! After the Harry Potter books ended and the Half Blood Prince film got pushed up until next summer, it sure was great to get hooked on something new. Can't think about the Bordens ALL the time!

Er... actually Caitlin, so do I! And I could just about be your granny! You might like Rob Pattinson's website http://www.robert-pattinson.co.uk/?cat=10
I stopped by Borders today and got my official calendar and then on to Hot Topic for my Edward hoodie
Yes, I liked him as Cedric in Goblet of Fire and thought then he looked like a young James Dean (the big swoon of MY generation) with a Brando brow. Yes, we old gals still have a romantic heart- I am still waiting for my Mr. Darcy and now Edward Cullen.
The Twilight Moms have a funny website for us "over-the'hill" chicks. http://www.twilightmoms.com/
I was up till 4 this morning reading the flip side of Twilight- the story from Edward's point of view on the author's website http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/midnightsun.html
His telling of it is much more interesting. Now I wonder how many recall Gary Oldman is Bram Stoker's Dracula awhile back? I had a color portrait of him in that gray suit with the silver-headed cane and tophead over my bed for two years! Ah yes, those devilishly handsome old bloodsuckers can sure tempt a gal to open up a vein!

I remember Gary Oldman in Dracula and also as the preacher in The Scarlet Letter. I had quite a crush on him!Shelley @ Mon Nov 03, 2008 5:01 pm wrote:Er... actually Caitlin, so do I! My niece was reading them and I borrowed the first one just to look into and make sure it wasn't too 'mature' for her. She's only 13. I was hooked within two chapters and went through the entire series in about 6 weeks. I thought I was the only such person my age or older that was into them! So glad you posted those links!
I'm off to check them out!

I often thought about some Lizzie-Dracula fiction! Boy, old Drac might be surprised! I could have his coffin arrive from New York on one of the Fall River steamers. . . . hmmm- this has possibilities!
My fav Vampires in order:
#1. Gary Oldman (this is the portrait that hung for 2 years over my bed!)

#2 Robert Pattinson in Twilight

#3 Louis Jordan (made for TV version)

#4 Dear old Bela who finally made vampires sexy

#5 Frank Langella from the Broadway play and film, so Byronesque!

Yep, I would leave the hubby of 37 years in a Transylvanian minute for any of them! He's still grumbling about those black silk pajamas he had to wear a la Gary Oldman! Men- NO imagination!

Now this is really blowing me away. I've never heard of these books, of course I don't have contact with too many teenagers. I cannot believe there is anothere interest in common among us. I've loved vampire movies etc.... (to my mothers horror) since I've been a kid. I was hooked when I saw my first Bela Lagosi vampire movie. I was just crazy over Frank Langella in his portrait of Dracula.
Gary Oldman - yes I loved his role also. Ahh, Shelley if we lived closer we would never sleep, just the thought of a Lizzie - Dracula connection. Can you imagine the script that could come out of that!!
After I get off this site I'm looking up Stephanie Meyers to see what the book list consists of, now what is this movie?? Is this still in the theatre? Also will be going to the websit you suggested to see what that's about.
I also just got a few books at a library booksale by Anne Rice. Has anyone read her vampire stories and do you recommend them??

Oh Harry! UGH!! Nosferatu IS creepy though. Twilight opens in theatres November 21st Lorraine so you have time to read the four books beforehand. Here are the top 10 Twilight sites. http://twilighttopsites.com/
I like the really Victorian -looking vampires (no surprise there). In Twilight, Edward was born in 1901, so he is almost a Victorian. Yes, I have pictured old Drac swooping in on Lizzie only to find there is more to her than meets the eye! Maybe she would try to persuade him to remove her stepmother from this mortal coil! Yes, there is a certain elegance and Old World charm about these guys- not at all what Bram Stoker originally had in his immortal novel- THAT image was more rat-toothed Nosferatu- NOT too sexy for the ladies to swoon over. Of course the role killed Bela's career- sad story that was. I have been collecting vampire ephemera for about 40 years- my favorite piece is the playbill from Lugosi's opening in Dracula at the old Fulton Theatre in NYC. I once had a spin in Christopher Lee's drac cape (it's ALL about the cape!). Those old Hammer films were a scream. I think you will love the novels in the Twilight series, Lorriane- this is a whole new breed of vampire. The series is said to rival the Harry Potter franchise. The gals are all screaming- young and old.
Anne Rice has now, I hear, gotten religion and is not writing in her old style- but yes, her Vampire LeStat books are fabulous and atmospheric. Interview With a Vampire is superb- book and film.

Saw the movie on Sunday with my niece. We were both dying-haha, nothing like a good love story to bring out the teenager in me!
As movies go, and Im no huge movie goer/reviewer!- it was technically just so-so. Some of the scenes were not well acted and some of the special effects were on the cheesy side.
BUT! It was a low budget film and so some of those things can be over looked. Mostly it was a powerful love story and it had the power to make your heart speed up in the right places, slow way down at the right spots and absolutely stop at times. And so as far as I am concerned, it was a fabulous flick! I will buy it when it comes to DVD and I am sooo lookonig forward to New Moon. My niece and I can't actually wait! I am such a dork! lol

I finished the first book on Friday. WOW!!!! I went to the bookstore(it's a small independent book seller) & ordered it again, only in hardcover. I also ordered the second book in hardcover. I can't believe I read that book that fast. However Shelley there was no way I could read 4 of them before the movie came out. The only way that would have happened is if I was a vampire myself & not slept.
I can't wait until that movie is for sale. Any news about making the other books into movies?

New Moon (second novel)was just authorized -filming will start soon. Twilight set all sorts of records this weekend with nearly 71 MILLION dollars in box office for Friday- Saturday- blowing James Bond right out of the water with Quantum of Solace. I took my 29 year old daughter to the first showing at midnight Thursday along with 600 excited girls! We had a ball. I felt about 15, although I was the oldest Old Gal there- wearing all my Twilight jewelry. I sat in the floor in line with the kids doing Twilight trivia and swooning bigtime over Edward! I saw it again 10 hours later nearly alone as the girls were all in school. Mostly it was handsome Rob Pattinson we all came to see in the romantic lead role- and boy, anytime he moved a muscle ALL of us sighed- you could hear the sighing like a windstorm in the theatre- we also laughed at ourselves right after. The kiss scene alone was worth the price of admission. Amazing how young people yearn for those simpler times when Romance, a protective, considerate male, and tenderness were the rule, not the exception. I hope it sends a message to Hollywood. The fact that our man was a vampire mattered not in the least- in fact his restraint was endearing as he put his love interest (nicely portrayed by Kristen Stewart, an 18 year old budding Meryl Streep) before himself -that actually was the endearing factor. Of course he was actually 108 years old so those Edwardians knew a thing or two about courtly behavior that today's man could profit by! This promises to be quite a franchise-with 2 and possibily THREE more novels which might be made into films. For more on Robert Pattinson (he who portrayed Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter Goblet of Fire) this is the best site to visit http://www.robert-pattinson.co.uk/?cat=10 Everyone at #92 was talking about it Friday night and I expect the excitement will continue for a long time with the new film in the works. With a bigger budget, I think it will exceed the first film in quality. The casting was spot-on. Um, - yes. . . I do have a few pin up posters and screensavers of my new vampire crush!
I still have a pulse!
