TEEN THOUGHT DEAD REMAINS IN COMA
TRAVERSE CITY
The family of a 17-year-old car crash victim they initially were told was dead wasn't killed in a crash in northern Michigan - that police had mixed up his identity with his friend - his family has watched and prayed for any sign that he will emerge from a nearly monthlong coma.
Patrick Bennet and Nate Smith, 16, were passengers in a car driven by a 17-year-old friend on July 10. Like Smith, Patrick suffered extensive injuries to his face and head in the crash and authorities, believing he was Nate, took Patrick to a Traverse City hospital.
For three days, Nate's family kept a bedside vigil for the bandaged boy whom they believed was their son. Meanwhile, told that Patrick was dead, his family prepared to bury him. When Patrick's parents finally saw the face of the boy in the casket at the funeral home, they realized a mistake had been made. END
I guess so! Can you imagine being the coma victim's parents, thinking your son was dead and going to the funeral home like that?????
