Lizzie and the Providence Journal

Post by mbhenty »

Yes:

Starting today the Providence Journal will be covering the trail of Lizzie Borden in celebration of the 120th anniversary of the trail and their coverage of it in 1892. The story will run for 6 days and is rather extensive with lots of great period illustrations by the paper during the trail.

For all you collectors, especially newspaper collectors, you should try and get your hand on a hard copy. Assured to be a monumental newspaper publication to the degree not seen since 1892.

The Journal is providing and interactive presentation on their website at Providencejournal.com Don't miss it.

Click on the photo of the paper below and check out the great coloration image of Lizzie Borden.

A running pole by the Providence Journal as to whether you think Lizzie is guilty or not. Interesting.

Bet you have never seen this photo of prosecutor Hosea Knowlton before. (?) :?:

And look at the wonderful photo of Emma. (supplied to the Journal by the FRHS)

She looks so young and....almost happy.

The clarity is astounding.

I love the courtroom sketches. The drawing of Emma shows a prominent double chin...in the photograph she appears much thinner. Did she gain a lot of weight as she got older, does anyone know?

The drawing looks nothing like Emma, but it’s a quick sketch.
Both Borden sisters were very attractive in their teens, and twenty’s.
