From The Past

Post by Allen »

My mother and grandmother were going through photo albums a few days ago.My mother decided to take some of the pictures and scan them into her computer so she could email them to different members of the family. She sent me this picture she found of my great grandmother. I think it is adorable.I cropped it a little, its a little worn around the edges, but still in pretty good shape.

AHHH! Her little pantaloons and her sagging stockings and that hairdo! She's pretty cute. Is this from a Brownie camera? Were other people cropped from the photo?

I really do not know what camera was used to take the picture. There were no other people in the picture, just my great grandmother. I have a picture of her mother also, but it's more worn and pretty hard to make out because it's kind of dark. My mom has promised to send me pictures of my grandfather's side of the family as soon as she gets the chance to scan them all in. I love looking at old photographs like this. Sometimes you can almost forget that the people in these pictures are your own flesh and blood. They are from another era you can never relate to, but none-the-less without them you would not be here yourself.

She is standing quietly by herself, which seems more like an informal pose and picture-taking endeavor which might imply an informal camera- rather than the dress-up, sit-down, sit-still, don't-move style of my great grandmother's day!
