Oh Mon Viktoria....

Post by Audrey »

When I was younger my mother told me the age old adage... "someday you will have a child just like you and you will be so very sorry for some of the things you have done and said to me"....

I pooh-poohed her prediction and even told her that I would be happy to have a child like me..

Lord-- forgive me for rolling my skirts, sneaking makeup and perfume and kissing that boy on his lips when I was 10.... Please overlook the time I sneaked out of the house at 15 and went dancing only to have my photo appear in the society pages the next morning-- and then actually thinking my parents would believe it was a stock photo of me at some previous event-- an event my mother had agreed to let me wear one of her strapless cocktail dresses to.. Don't hold against me the time I drank 6 glasses of forbidden champagne at cousin Henri's wedding compelling me to sneak up behind auntie Hortense and carefully remove her hair piece so that I could don it and dance that spirited can-can with that blond Norwegian waiter who lost his job over it....

Just spare Torrey...

She is only 7!

Grant me the patience to not only understand, but applaud her for the things she has done lately to test me...

Like when we went to that Country Jamboree and she pouted and did all she could to ruin the evening for everyone, including "losing" the straw hat her daddy bought her at the concession stand-- only to find it and rise to her feet, mary-jane's moving a mile a minute as she dosie-do'd and smiled radiantly at the adorable 20 year old cowboy playing "Orange Blossom Special" on his electric fiddle..

Or 2 weeks ago when she used the restroom excuse in school to sneak from her 1st grade classroom to the 4th grade classroom to wave charmingly through the window in the door at the boy she was expecting to con out of the purple hi-liter she had seen him with earlier....

It really was normal that she sneak my lipstick and put nearly half a tube on her lips... Really..

And tonight.. Please help me to realize the pure delight in seeing her hula out of the butler's pantry in a grass skirt and coconut bra (of unknown origin) to Mele Kalikimaka....

Help me to break the pattern and not tell her...

Viktoria! Some day you will have a daughter just like you.....

Gosh I actually kissed my first boy in the bushes when I was 9!

As long as she has lots of brothers, she is safe!
