Sunday, Mark went by the 92 Second Street B&B to get some pictures of the barn construction for us all! Yay!

It's my understanding that the building is placed back farther on the property than the original, in order to provide needful driveway and parking area facilities.

WOW thanks so much for posting those Kat! Those are great pictures taken by Mark, many thanks to him as well! I'm more sorry than ever that I didn't make it up there over the summer now. But I can look forward to maybe seeing it after all the construction is through, that's the one bright side to it

Thanks for the great photos, Mark. I'm glad to see the barn is going up in the right place.

I was very confused in August--it looked like the foundation was being dug in the wrong place.

Had Lee-ann previously explained the work, and I just missed it? Or was this the foundation to the Leary Press? If so, I really didn't know it went that far back on the property.

I think that I'm starting to like the new color of the house. It sort of grows on you.
I explained to my 8 year old that back in the 1890's, most houses around here looked like the 2nd Street house does today. She said " That must have been weird with so many green houses in Fall River"!

Are you sure about that, Kat? The diagrams from the 1892 newspapers, which are reproduced in Rebello and other places seem to show the barn just about as far back on the Borden property as it could have been. I can't can't see how today they would be able to set it even farther back.

Harry says there was a lot more room behind the original barn than people think.

According to the map in Rebello, p45, the length of the Borden property, west to east was 115 feet.

Length from front fence to house = 7 ft.
Length of house = 47 ft.
Between back of house and barn = 11 ft. (approx)
Length of barn = 30 ft.

Total = 95 ft.

This would leave approx. 20 feet behind the barn to the back fence.

Note: The 15 ft. shown in the drawing from the house to the barn is from the end of the back stairs to the barn not the end of the house to the barn. I estimated 4 feet from the back of the house to the end of the back stairs.

Wow, a big round of thanks to Kat and Mark and Harry. The house looks gorgeous! I'm still not sure about the green color, but, as Mark said, it starts to grow on you, the house looks just wonderful! And a new barn to boot! Can't wait to see it finished.

Good info, Harry, I tend to forget how much room there was behind the "bahn". Oooo, now I want to take another vacation and go visit the Lizzie B&B!

The barn looks great and Donald and Lee-ann deserve our applause for their continued re-creation of the Borden homestead.

Is that the original color of the house? I thought it was called "drab" when it was described, but that definitely does not look drab to me.

The upstairs of the barn is to be used for offices and to be the residence of the nightime manager. The lower level is to be for the gift shop.

I am sorry that I never seen this post till today.

These pictures along with the pictures from the post by catlover showing the barn more completed brings back the rush of excitement I got when I first drove by the house and seen in person for the first time. In a way it is more so, for the house and property look more like I expected it to when I first went there.

When I go there again it will kind of be kind of like seeing it in person for the first time again. You can see the house so much better now.
