Firefox 1.5 browser released

Post by Harry »

Mozilla has announced that version 1.5 of their free browser, Firefox, has been released.

http://www.mozilla.com/

I just downloaded and installed it. For those of you who already have it, it won't look much different from version 1.0.7 as the upgrades are mostly in the security area.

Personally, I think it's the best browser out there.

I agree, Harry. I've been using Firefox as my default browser for some time now and have been recommending it to everyone I know.

I downloaded it based on Harry's recommendation.

It IS a superior browser to any other I have ever used!

You can also download various themes to customize how it looks and other extensions to meet your needs.

I REALLY like it and do so appreciate the information!

One of the features I like is the ability to see a password that you have assigned and saved to a particular web site. If you are like me sometimes its hard to remember the right password for the right site. You can see the passwords you have assigned by clicking:

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for recommending this browser. I downloaded and installed it solely based on your suggestion and I have been more than thrilled with it's performance and it's options!

If any of you have not tried it, I urge you to do so! It is SAFER than IE, FASTER and much mor FUN! I have downloaded many of it's extentions and themes and have totally customized it for my use. It is worth the download and the time it takes to explore the extensions. The best news? IT IS ALL FREE!

I'm glad you tried and like it Auds. It's the way a browser should be. It lets you add the extensions you want and they are easy to add and delete. You can spend days just browsing all the extensions available and they keep on coming up with new ones.

One of the features I use a lot is the Personal Tool bar for web sites I visit often. It allows you to add a URL or even a folder full of URL's for individual web sites to the toolbar. I have the URL for the forum and I just click that and I can jump directly to it. Put your cursor on the Personal tool bar and right click the mouse. You should see New Bookmark. Click that and it will let you add the URL's to the toolbar.

I loved the smilies you found.

Yes, I use it too! It even uses the icons the web site has designated! My Lizzie one has a little picture of Lizzie!

Alax made one a long time ago and I sent it to Stef. I do not know if she uses that one, or had one of her own before that.

Now, that's COOL, Auds. You can do away with the Google icon as FireFox has one built in unless you removed it. I'm thinking of removing it and going with your setup.

Here's a smiley appropriate for this forum:

Sounds good Harry. But tell me something Harry, how easy is it to switch between Microsoft's IE and Fire Fox if say a web site won't recognize one or the other? I would like to have both on my computer and switch back and fourth as the need arises. I've heard that some sites won't work with Fire Fox or Netscape. My Windows XP sometimes throw's a fit if I try to use an add-on that is not made by Microsoft or is not approved by Bill.

I would like to use Fire Fox but I'd like to be able to do a fast switch to IE without having to "take my computer apart", if you know what I mean. I need fast simplicity not a headache.

How's does two clicks sound to you for easy.

One of the available extensions in Firefox is the ability to load and view the same page your on in Firefox in IE.

You simply right click anywhere on the page and click "View this page in IE". It loads the IE browser with that same page. Voila, done!

If you place the cursor on a URL while in Firefox and right click you can also "Open target link in IE". It will then load the IE browser with that page.

More and more programs are being written to accomodate Firefox so all that is gradually disappearing.

I don't want people to believe I am pushing Firefox. I'm simply saying I like it as my browser. It does not conflict with nor change any settings for any other browser.

Sounds like a big winner to me. Thank you, Harry! You saved my life. I'm going to load Firefox.
