Wow I loved the drawings!
And then I checked the "Site Map."
And then I went to Newport!
And then I went "Shopping" and then I went to "Souvenirs..."


Whew! I came up for air!

I went to Newport last August. Loved it. On my last day there I woke up early so I'd have time to do the Cliff Walk. Basically, you walk along the Cliffs for a few miles and get to see those beautiful mansions. Or at least part of them. I walked up and then turned around and hiked back. It's a nice walk but it gets pretty rocky toward the end.

Later on, I went back to the Tennis Hall Of Fame which is in Newport. I got to play on the grass courts there.Originally it was called the Newport Casino and the wealthy use to go there and play/watch the tennis. This started in the 1880s. Here's a picture of a woman playing tennis about 1880s or 90s. I'm not sure. I wonder if Lizzie ever played there? One of the things about this picture is the woman is not only playing in a long skirt but her wooden racquet also has no leather grip.

We drove around Newport the trip before last- October 2004.
It was wonderful to see the mansions.
I saw people walking the rocks and thought how intrepid they seemed!

We also vistied the Farewell Street house where Lizzie vacationed after her acquittal, and saw the King-Covell B&B at Washington Street as well.
Sherry Chapman wrote about these sites in The Hatchet, August/September, 2004, Vol.1, Issue 4, page 24, "Lizzie In Newport" just in time for our visit!

Next visit, I'd like to go promanade the shopping area. :smile:
