Time Travel

Post by Tina-Kate »

My Mum sent me a quote this morning from her favorite British astrologer, Jonathan Cainer...I think it appeared in his column for today---

"Some people may not be convinced about time travel, yet I still insist it is possible to send yourself a message from the future. And we can do it the other way. Think of something you never want to forget. Then reach out to the person you will be a few years from now and remind them to remember this. I am not trying to be silly; I am trying to help you get cosmic. There's a good reason for this. You have powers that you don't fully recognise. Expand your imagination and you can do amazing things."

It sounded both odd & interesting & I thought I'd pass it on. Maybe some people might want to experiment.

Not sure if we covered this some time in the past (not trying to be ironic...hehehe), but I'll pose the question again anyway---

If you were able to time travel back to 1892, would you check out the circumstances of the Borden case & how would you do your sleuthing?

Interesting notion. I have always been puzzled by deja vu, or a strong affinity to a certain time period, incident, certain personalities and events in the past. For me it has been the Titanic, and the 1880-1914 era, -the people and events and culture of that time span. Some believe in reincarnation- I am not so sure about that. Maybe we are receiving messages NOW sent from back then to the future. :peanut16: Jack Finney has written some really good stuff on time travel. Pick up his novel Time and Again and be prepared to stay up all night reading it!
If you only read two time travel novels, make 'em Time and Again, and Bid Time Return (Somewhere in Time). Nathan's Portrait of Jennie is also excellent.

Yes, Time And Again is my favorite novel. It's worth a read for anyone interested in combining the Victorian age with science fiction.

And Somewhere In Time was definitely influenced by Time and Again. And since Time and Again was never made into a movie, go out and rent Somewhere In Time immediately!

Jack Finney also wrote a novel called MARION'S WALL about a man who communicates with a woman from the 1920s through messages left in a roll-top desk. Strangely similar to what we're discussing.

ancient philosophies like the Hindu Upanishads and even more modern ones like Immanuel Kant and Quantum Physics, all claim that time and space are properties of consciousness. That means SOMETHING exists OUTSIDE of Time and Space. So why can't human beings have the ability to communicate along that "message bus" so to speak.

Perhaps we do all the time, in dreams, in our religious beliefs, in our meditations, inspirations, deja vus, our art work, poetries, our own private mythologies. The more outside of Time and Space we become, the more mystically we see the world.

The amazing thrill you get when a great line of poetry or a work of religious art overwhelms you with beauty may be a moment when a part of you is lifting outside of that Time/Space bubble we live in during our everyday mundane lives.

Then again, if you believe that Time and Space exists INDEPENDENTLY of our minds, then ignore everything I just said.

The sequel to Time and Again was Finney's last novel and was not as good as the first- sequels seldom are. But, it has Titanic in it so it was worth it.
The Wayside Inn in Massachusetts has that hidden note thing going on since it opened. Notes are all over the place, tucked in ceiling joists, desks, cracks. It was on the travel channel with the Borden House on the haunted inns special. My daughter Hollie did the ghost of Jerusha waiting for her sailor husband to return (I am a Mom so I have bragging rights). I had one day to make her costume! We really enjoyed filming together. Did we get paid- naw... but it was fun!

TK, I once did a *past life regression* and found myself in France during WWI. But at the time I thought it was a regression- but later some of what I *saw* and *experienced* came true later in my life. It's confusing but wonderful to contemplate!

As for this crime, if I was me- a girl- I might latch onto Ed. Porter and follow him around and see what he saw while writing as police reporter for the newspaper. I think I might have learned a lot about this case by shadowing Porter.

If I could pop back to August 4th I would try to get Alice Russell and Addie Churchill alone for some "girl talk". I bet they saw a lot- especially Alice.
I was also hypnotized back in 1968 for a past life regression. I listened to the tapes played back from the session (which were in French) and seems I did time as a governess in Dijon, France in the DuBarry family , and another life as a governess in England who was saved from a sinking shipwreck. The ship was a wooden-hulled, sailing clipper which went down off the CT coast. I gave particulars about the funeral service for the victims, and mentioned a Captain Jonathan Fish. What a shock it was to be meandering in a Mystic cemetery one day and stumbling across 2 sea captain brothers named Fish- one Jonathan. You might enjoy the novel The Reincarnation of Peter Proud, also made into a movie back in the 80's I think.

Very odd you should mention that, there's always been something strangely familiar to me about France during the first World War time period. Seeing Lombardy poplars seems to be the key. What is a past life regression?

Through hypnosis, memories of a past existence can often be tapped into and described. The most famous case of this might have been in the account by Jesse Stern called Girl With the Blue Eyes about Bridey Murphy, an Irish girl. The book was the first in that reincarnation craze which swept the country.
Gee Yooper, maybe we were relatives in France in our past lives! I just KNEW there had to be a reason we agree on everything.

I'm usually VERY skeptical about things metaphysical, but I can't deny this deja vu. I've never tried being hypnotized, would skepticism be a barrier to that? The odd part is that I've never been the least bit interested in France other than that! I guess maybe anything is possible, maybe we were related, Shelley! On the other hand, given enough people, we can probably find someone we always agree with, perhaps even several!

Very cool. I consider myself a skeptic about a lot of things. On the other hand, I've had so many experiences of the paranormal variety, I remain interested in hearing about such things. I can never actually *believe* unless I experience something myself tho.

I may have had small past life flashes but I'm not sure, so I can't say I truly believe, but am extremely interested.

That's very interesting re. Porter.
